My car radio display is messed up after getting an oil change yesterday. What happened?
-
My car needed a regular oil change, so my best friend and I traded cars yesterday and he took my car into a Walmart automotive center while I was at work. The oil change went fine as far as I know. The car is running smoothly, however I turned on my radio today when I was driving to work and noticed the liquid crystal display is completely messed up. The radio turns on fine and I can listen to the stations and change stations just fine. It's just the display that isn't working. What I see is dark circles of liquid crystal filling in each of the numbers. My friend swears he did not touch the radio at all yesterday so I am sure somebody at Walmart did something. Is it possible there is just a loose fuse? Also my airbag light is on now too. Could this somehow be connected to the problem? Of course, I am going to take my car back to Walmart this weekend and ask but I was just wondering if anyone out there knows exactly what happened?

Answer:
One of many good reasons not to use Wal Mart for your oil changes. They do not exactly hire the finest mechanics on the planet. It does sound like someone hit the display with something. Not much you can do unless you can prove it. Air bag light may be on because they might have messed up a cable somewhere.

someone struck the radio actual physical hit and that has ruptured the LED display Wally World may help but who knows the radio had to be hit by something
Someone hit the radio's display with an elbow or tool, and cracked the thin glass layer behind the display. Liquid displays consist of 2 thin layers of glass with a conductive fluid in between. The display must be replaced, and since they are rarely sold separately, the entire radio is usually replaced. Contact Walmart and scream loudly until they agree to replace the display / radio. Don't know about the airbag light; get Walmart on that too. Perhaps a mechanic was out driving the car and had to slam on the brakes and hit the dash. This could have triggered the airbag alarm while his elbow hit the radio. Always note the odometer mile when taking in a car for service. Checking again when you pick up the car will give you an idea how much the car was driven.
the lcd must be broken. someone probably hit it really hard to do that
never go to walmart for repairs, call their customer service center, they may blow you off after a few attempts, keep at them and threaten court, you will get a call from the general manager at some point and just to shut you up they will replace the stereo that sum knuckle head put his finger through when he was turning the volume down
maybe they unpluged your battery or turned radio off wrong
You can futz up a liquid crystal display by zapping it with a stun gun. That's quick and effective and irreparable. Maybe they have some stereos that have been on the shelf too long and that's how they intend to drum up sales.
check the fuses. or get another radio. also check the battery connections.
