Do i need insurance to drive limo?

Do I need to pay insurance if i don't drive but have a license?

  • My mother-in-law will be moving out and taking the vehicle with her, do i still need to be paying insurance if i dont have a vehicle to drive? And if i do not pay insurance for 3-6 months does my Ontario license become invalid, and have to start back at g1? How long can i go without paying insurance when i dont have a vehicle to drive? Can you give me an Ontario government website that states information on this.

  • Answer:

If the vehicle is registered to your mother-in-law then she should be paying for the insurance for the vehicle. If the vehicle was yours and you sold it to your mother-in-law then she should be taking out a policy in her own name and you should cancel the one in your name. Your license remains valid regardless of whether you have an active policy or not (no you do not go back to a G1). You can choose to never own a vehicle again and your license will remain valid as long as you renew it. As long as you do not live in your friend's household or do not drive the vehicle regularly you can drive your friend's vehicle. You would be covered automatically by there policy as long as you have permission to drive the vehicle.
