How much does it cost to sign over the title to a car?
-
I live in NJ and would like to know about how much does it cost to sign over the title to a car. My mom's boyfriend is giving it to me as a gift. And it's a 2002 Dodge Intrepid if that helps. I dont even know if that information was relevant but hey it doesn't hurt to put in any additional information. Thanks to all who answer.

Answer:
Signing the title over is free. When you go to register it in your name is when the money part comes in.

they will charge you 7% sales tax...even if its a gift...so tell them a price you bought it for smaller than the blue book value so you pay less...then like $20 or something for the title fee then more to register it to you and get plates...$60 or so
