How old do you have to be to obtain a car title?

How do i go about to obtain a car title?

  • Our family friend owns a own car shop where at the moment he is fixing up a 2002 mercury cougar that my family wants to buy for my first car. The only problem is that the car does not have a title. (I am not sure how he came to have the car in his possession, but this is not the first that he has fixed up for fun.) I was just wondering how we should go about trying to get the title for the car because we want to buy it from him. (An explanation that I will understand would be helpful cause I don't really speak car terminology.)

  • Answer:

If he doesn't have a title for it, it isn't his to sell. You can't just go get one. He may have bought it as a salvage vehicle or a parts car. In that case I would pass as you would have a hard time getting it certified as roadworthy by your state and getting insurance on it.

You can't. Do not give him any money. He need's to produce a legal title to you when he sell's it. Until then, the car could be stolen for all you know. Buying a 3200 pound automobile without a title is liking buying air because a car is useless without a title. 2 thumbs down!??!! Wow. So 2 IDIOTS are running around buying car's with no titles!! (scratching head)

The owner must file for a lost title and the DMV must do a tirle search to determine if he is the correct owner. Back taxes may be due also. If someone gave him the car he should go to them and ask.
