How do non-diplomats get special diplomatic license plates?

License suspended - how to get plates for my new car ? HELP !!?

  • I am currently under a license suspension in Ohio for an under age OVI .. I have been looking for a car to use as I am now able to get work privileges, and I just found one. I put money on it- I will be getting it tomorrow. Here's the problem: in order to get my work privileges (license), I need proof of insurance. In order to get the insurance, I need the car... But in order to get the car home, I need plates. BUT IN ORDER TO GET THE PLATES I NEED MY LICENSE. I called the BMV like two seconds ago and asked the lady. First, she told me to call the courts. Then she told me to call my insurance agent.. Even though I told her I do NOT have insurance yet. She is such an idiot that I had to hang up. You can't honestly tell me I'm the only person who has ever been in this position !! Help me, how do I get my plates ?

http://bmv.ohio.gov/als_refusal_test.stm The 1st thing you need to do, is get your license reinstated, otherwise, even with the new car you get, you will be illegally driving w/out a valid license. That is the reason the lady told you to contact the courts. Since you put money on this car, you should be able to get the VIN number of this car. With this information, any insurance agent can give you a "binder" with your down payment of premium, that will show that your car is insured and take to the BMV to get your plates. But if you are buying this car from a dealer, then the dealer should have temporary plates that are good for 20 to 30 days, then you can get "real" plates in your name. http://bmv.ohio.gov/noncompliance_suspension.stm But, if you do not get your license reinstated, you might not be able to get the plates. That is the reason that the 1st thing you do, is call the courts and see that you can get your license reinstated. good luck

You don't need to have the car, you need the VIN. Give the VIN to the insurance company and they will issue a binder that is proof of insurance.

You need to tell us more. Do you own a car yet? If yes, where is it - why do you need to "get it home"? Does your insurer require that they see the car in order to give you coverage?
