How much will it cost to transfer a car title?

  • Alright so I'm 16 and have my license and I'm insured....now I just need a car! My grandmother has one that she's willing to give me eventually it's I think a 2005 toyota corolla, but she doesn't want the title under my name and she doesn't want me drving the car under her name because then I'd have to be on her insurance which she doesn't want either. So I'm going to try to get her to transfer the title under my dad's name since I'm already under his insurance. But my grandmother was like, "nooo that costs thousands of dollars" which I seriously doubt! How much do you think it would be, around $50 maybe?

    No one has any idea. You see, you are asking on a world wide site without any clue as to where you are, and the rates vary by location. You might even be in a state where they allow family transfer to be tax free. But it really doesn't matter. What did Grandma say? Let me quote you. "...but she doesn't want the title under my name and she doesn't want me driving the car under her name ..." That's the end of it. Respect her wishes. She will do what she wants when eventually finally arrives.

Alright so ....So Like Yeah, I'm like...$50. is about right for a new title and then another $100. for plates but you say you already have insurance. You do not have insurance yet! We insure cars so I'm like this new car must be insured before it can be driven. You better like listen to Grandma, because like, Grandma is pretty, like close with her, like Thousands of dollars, like maybe a bit less though like Insurance will cost.....I'm like hundreds?........so like alright

Cleveland 08/28/10 The cost/charge to transfer the title should be only the regular charge to make a title,..plus, the charge for a new registration,..As the auto must get registered,..Aaanndd,..ofcourse, the cost for Tags,..Too,..in most states in order to get Tags one must show proof of insurance,.??
