How do I get the title to my car?

How to get a new car title? Major Dilemma!!?

  • I recently traded a car for 600 dollars payment but we ended up screwing the title so i couldn't register my vehicle. The woman at the registration place in my town told me that I had to get a new title from the previous owner of the vehicle. I told the owner that I needed a new title from him and he told me to wait within 6 weeks for it to come...6 weeks came and no title. I've tried contacting him but no replies. Phone is disconnected now. I took a trip up to where he lived..find out they moved..bug bummer on my end. Now I have an unregistered vehicle with no title. Its on my insurance and everything but I cant drive an unregistered vehicle. Please help me if there is a way I can get a renewed title. I mean I have proof that the car wasn't stolen with an old title. Persons name and everything. Please help.

There are places that do what's called "title work". The local ones here charge about $250, and will either find the old owners or apply for a new title with the state. Check google or the phone book, or call a semi truck dealer, they seem to perform that service alot. For a $600 dollar car though...not sure if it's worth it. Good luck. Edit: If you know the guy, and have the old title, he can go to the DMV and apply for a lost or damaged title, shouldn't cost too much, and will be quick and simple since he's the owner as far as the state knows. If he won't help you, that's when the above will apply.
