Drivers license restrictions?

The restrictions on full drivers license for people under 18?

  • The DMV website is super confusing. What are the rules for someone who has their full drivers license after completing drivers ed but is under 18? thanks.

  • Answer:

Depends on the state. In California, under 18 drivers have to deal with a "graduated, provisional" license. For example, for the first 12 months after the license is issued: * No passengers under the age of 20 in the car * Cannot drive between the hours of 11 PM and 5 AM UNLESS there is a licensed driver over the age of 25 in the car. Breaking either of the above rules can result in a permanently suspended license until 18. There are some exceptions that the CA DMV website details.

It should say on your license that you are under 18 by a certain date and then under 21 by a certain date. So that basically means you can't buy cigarettes, alcohol, lottery tickets and such.

Generally the restrictions include the number of passengers you're allowed to have, the times you're allowed to drive (around here it's 30 minutes after sunrise, and 30 minutes after dusk.)
