Do I need insurance to drive my dad's car?

If im covered on my mom's car insurance do i need to be listed as a driver on my dad's insurance?

  • I get my license on Tuesday, and my mom has me on her car insurance and listed as a driver . So does that mean i need to be listed on my dads insurance to drive his truck? Also their divorced and they have joint custody over me so i spend the same amount at each of there houses

  • Answer:

Under normal circumstances when people divorce, the one not having custody would have the children on weekends only, or every other weekend, plus maybe a week or 2 during the summer or holidays, but in your case since they have equal and joint custody most likely you should be listed on both parents, since in effect you are a resident of each parent. Have your mom call and talk to her agent, or her insurance company to verify if you would be covered driving your dads truck, or if, your dad should add to his policy also. The key is, you or both of your parents don't want to find out that her policy wont cover you, if you were in an accident in your dads truck. good luck

you would need to be listed on your dads insurance to drive his truck, unless your moms insurance covers you for any car you drive.
