At what age can I get my drivers permit in Illinois without going to a driving school?
-
Some people have told me 17 and three months or 17 and nine months, but I can't find anything about it in the driving manual. And my family doesn't have the money to pay for a driving school so that is why I need to know. Thanks(:

Answer:
You can get the permit at 17 years and 3 months without proof of driver's ed. You'll have to hold the permit for 9 months, and will be able to get the license at age 18. The issue is that your driver's insurance premiums will be significantly higher than someone who took the course.

Initial Licensing Phase - Drivers Age 16-17 Parent/guardian must certify that a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving, including 10 hours of nighttime driving, has been completed. Parent/guardian must accompany teen to provide written consent to obtain a driver's license, OR complete and notarize an Affidavit/Consent For Minor to Drive form. ****Must have completed a state-approved driver education course. **** A nighttime driving restriction is in place Sunday-Thursday, 10 p.m-6 a.m., and Friday-Saturday, 11 p.m.-6 a.m. (local curfews may differ from the nighttime driving restriction). Must maintain a conviction-free driving record for six months prior to turning age 18 before moving to the Full Licensing Phase. A traffic conviction during the initial licensing phase may extend restrictions beyond age 18. All occupants under age 19 must wear safety belts. For the first year of licensing, or until the driver is age 18, whichever occurs first, the number of passengers is limited to one person under age 20, unless the additional passenger(s) is a sibling, step-sibling, child, or step-child of the driver. After this period, the number of passengers is limited to one in the front seat and the number of safety belts in the back seat. Cell phone use while driving is prohibited except in the case of an emergency to contact a law enforcement agency, health care provider or emergency services agency. Sanctions --------------------------------------… SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) __ The cost of driver education could be on the way up in Illinois. A new law gives school districts permission to charge up to $250 in fees for driver education courses. Until now, the fees have been limited to $50. Districts will have to hold public hearings before the fees can be increased. They’re also required to skip the fee for students who can’t afford it. Many schools have already been charging higher fees, thanks to state waivers letting them ignore the $50 limit. Supporters say the higher limit will eliminate the time and red tape involved in getting those waivers. Gov. Quinn signed the bill into law Thursday. — The bill is SB1643. Sorry for the bad news I found. IL does not require driver ed for 18 yrs and older to obtain a Drivers License. If I was you I would ask the staff at school for financial help,if available. Good Luck!
You can't drive without going to driving school. I don't know how it is the USA, but I am pretty sure that it is the same as here in Europe.
