What is the ownership cost like?

I am a college student and I commute to school and work. I was thinking of getting the 2005 Toyota Prius, to save some money on gas. But I have heard that the cost of ownership is kind of high. What is the cost of ownership like?

My 2004 Prius has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 130,000 trouble-free miles I've driven it so far. The only people I have heard stating high ownership costs are those who don't own a Prius. Based on the high owner satisfaction rating, I'd suggest that very few people have ownership costs much higher than mine. If you DIY (and it's easy on the Prius) you can lower your ownership costs quite a bit.
