How to get Virginia driver license?

Procedure to get driver's license in Virginia?

  • So, I am 15 years old and I had my permit since April 2010(eligible to get license in January 2011). I already took health10/driver's ed during the summer so I have my green card. Now I have to take behind the wheel right? After behind the wheel, if I pass the test then I get my paper license and they give me a court date right? What do you do at court and would the court date be after January 2011 or could it be before? Also what do you do when all that is done? Thanks :)

  • Answer:

You have to have your permit for at least 9 months before behind the wheel will give you a license. You do behind the wheel for ten hours which comes out to about ten "classes" or sessions with a driver. You won't go to court on the exact day that you're eligible for a license but it will be whenever you're free after that day. I just signed some stuff and watched a video about drunk driving or something with my parents etc. Then you get a paper license. You get your real license after 6 months. The paper license functions just like a real one except its just like a print out instead of a real license. You can drive by yourself or carry only one passenger with you for the first year.
