How can i get a new title for a car without having a registration?

  • i bought a show car the other day at my local junk yard, the car had just been put into their inventory, which means it was complete, and was missing a few parts, which now i bought and installed myself, but the car has no title and i have no info of the car accept the VIN number? what can i do to get the title and register it?

    You will have to request a lost title then do the required paperwork and a new title and then registration can be issued. Here in California using the VIN, the DMV will attempt to contact the last registered owner asking for a release of the vehicle, if a release or if no response is returned within 90 days they can issue a new title and registration in your name.

the other answer that you can apply for a lost tittle is bogus.you can not get a tittle without a registration that establishes ownership.unless you can track down the owner for some important paper work,you can not own the car.no registration,no tittle,no plates and thus no insurance.you can sell the car in pieces as the junk yard had intended.
