Employee Parking Ticket In Employer Car?

What if I hit a parked car, but didn't realize it? HELP! :(?

  • PLEASE READ, the details are important! I was driving a huge old van, which is hard for me to drive because it is so big and the gears are very hard to shift. I backed out of a parking space in a community parking lot. As I was going forward to the exit, I scraped something with the van. The passenger in the front seat says that I just scraped a light-post that was near the exit, but I was SO FREAKED OUT that I wasn't sure. I thought I might have hit the rear of the car parked next to me as well. I was freaking out because the whole incident was a crazy blur in my mind so the passenger and I drove back very shortly thereafter to make sure that I didn't hit anything ELSE and didn't realize it, but we didn't see any damage on any other cars. The damage is on the left headlight and we were going out a right exit, and there were only parked cars on the right whereas the light-pole was on the left. However, we didn't get out of the car, we just drove by it several times (we were parked very close to the exit and could see the spot where we were parked very well from the street- we didn't get out because the lot was full, but we drove by VERY SLOWLY, several times from both directions). The cars parked on either side of the spot where I had pulled out from were the same cars that were there when I pulled out, and we didn't see any damage on them. I am STILL scared that perhaps I hit a car! We didn't see any cameras but there was another car coming into the parking lot at the same time as we were leaving it and it is possible that they saw us scrape the light-post and possibly another car. To complicate matters a bit, the car that I was driving belonged to the family that I work for. I have their full permission to drive it and they are VERY cool about the slight damage done to it, apparently I am not the first employee to have a little fender bender, and they said that their insurance will cover it. But... IF I did hit another car and didn't see the damage, and there was a camera that we didn't see or the other people in the parking lot reported the license plate number, what will happen to me?? I am only 17 and have had my license for one month, but have never hit anything before or had a speeding ticket at all. I am an excellent student with a full ride to a prestigious college and have never been in one bit of trouble before. Will it hurt me that I was driving another family's car? Please respond quickly... I am scared! :(

  • Answer:

Please don't try an unfamiliar vehicle your not comfortable with driving. You will have to leave all contact information, and name, address, phone number, insurance to the CLOSEST BUSINESS that the object you hit, at any speed and report that you have just hit the post and you will leave all contact information and insurance. This is a small accident, and your lucky you been going slow (i hope). The slower you drive in parking lots, then less damage you will less take if you end up scraping something.
