What does 50/50 liability on a vehicle insurance claim entail?

• I have just had the result of a vehicle insurance claim which is 50/50 liability. My insurance company previously cancelled my policy without me knowing as i hadnt paid the extra £400 increase in premium after i passed my driving test. However when they emailed me i responded straight away asking if this could either be added to my monthly premiums or for them to confirm the cancellation fee. I received no response for 2 months until i found they had cancelled my policy. The accident was before this, i then called my insurers who advised IF i am found to be at fault & the other party claims against me i would have to pay the remainder of the annual premium before they dealt with the claim, which is understandable. However this has been confirmed as 50/50, and i will NOT be claiming for the damage to my vehicle, so there is NO claim for them to process and nothing for them to pay out. But i am still getting letters demaning the remainder of the premium which is £600. can they do this when i am not claiming for the damage?? As far as i am concerned they are no longer my insurer and the case is closed. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Kind regards Hayley

  I would definitely dispute the amount that they are trying to bill you. When you call make sure you ask too speak with a manager. Explain to the manager the situation and inform them that you do not wish to continue service with them and therefore there is no reason for them to be sending you a bill for services you are not going to receive. If they continue to insist you pay the amount I would recommend you inform them that you plan on reporting the incident to the BBB and are going to be consulting Legal Aid.
