What is a radial scratch?

What can I Do about a man who i think is trying to get more money from my mother over a small scratch on car?

  • A few days go, i got to a VERY minor car accident. the bumper of the vehicle was absolutely normal, and all i left was a scratch that was as big as 2 big man's thumbs put together. So with just small scratch like that i thought this man would let this accident go since it was not as a big deal i thought it would be, but of course he did not. We exchanged information and went our ways. about half an hour later, he calls my mom, who was also there when the accident occured, and tells my mom that he had just gone over to a friends shop and said it was going to take $620 to get the scratch out. My mother and i new something was up because we knew a small scratch like that would not have been $620. My mother then offered to give him an address to a mechanic we know that would fix it for a lower priace, since it is just a scratch, and that was that. Now he called earlier today saying he wanted our insurance company because he neck is hurting. My mother became furious because just right after the accident he was fine and did not complain about anything at all. However he still wants to file a claim, but me and my mom are starting to believe that he is just trying to take money from us. It was really a VERY small minor accident that only ended up with a small scratch, which means that there should not have been any injuries at all. I also took pictures of the mans bumper to show as proof on how minor the accident really was. MY mother and I struggle with this economy and we do not know what to do in this situation. We feel he is trying to take money from us when in reality it does not really cost much to take out a small scratch. what can we do?

  • Answer:

I would let him know in no uncertain terms that you will not pay this amount, and offer an amount you believe would be fair. If this is not acceptable, I would refer this individual to your insurance company. Really, there's no need for you to get this involved especially if a police report was never filed. Let your insurance company deal with this - that's what they're there for! Good luck.

Contact your insurance company. They will fight the claim for you.

If this is just between your mother and the owner of the scratched car, then take the car around and get quotes from a few (3 or so) body shops. This should give you an idea of what you should expect your mom to pay, reasonably. If your mom's insurance is involved, then they have their own mechanisms to prevent fraud on either side of the scenario and you getting involved would not be prudent.

its called insurance company police report an dyou let insurance company handle it and sure sorry but a small scratch could cost 1000 unless you know how to do the painting work at a paint shop .. first you should have called cops got a report made then turned it into insurance but now you don thave to pay but really if it was your fault you can wait til he sue you then go to court pay lawyers court cost miss time from work an d then pay more price could go up three time what it is now
