How do I transfer my driver's license over?

How do I transfer my drivers license to another state?

  • I am from Pennsylvania originally and now am living in Ohio. I want to get my drivers license switch from PA to Ohio one. Does anybody know the procedures I need to take to make this happen?

  • Answer:

when you get to ohio, go to the DMV and get an ohio license. you may have to take a written written test. or they may just take your old license and give you an ohio license.

Hi there, Please refer to see “Driver Licensing & Vehicle Registration - New Residents,” Chapter 2, of the driver's handbook (p.14?): http://driving-tests.org/ohio/ohio-drivers-handbook-online/ You'll find the step-by-step procedure there (and save me the trouble of copying and pasting big chunks of text here! :)) Hope this helps!

Well, you would usually go to the dmv in Ohio. They may have you take a written test. After that you will all ready to go! :)

yes its easy. If you have a good driving record they may just give you another license no problem , The last time I went in I had no trouble and just changed over because my driving record was perfect. The time before that, the state gave me a written test, which I passed so they gave me my license. I would study the motor vehicles handbook, assume you may get a written test so pass that and your home free. I know one time the guy before me failed the written test so they gave him a driving test too. Being on the safe side is better than failing the test, do some reading and good luck..

Go to the Ohio DMV or look up the details on their website

Check the state's website. You should be able to find a link for the DMV. Anytime you move from one state to another, you will have to transfer your license eventually (everyone has different time limits). Some states (NJ is one) will require you to retake the written portion of the test. If you visit the state's site, they should be able to tell you what you will need to bring along. You'll also want to contact an auto insurance agent in the new city to transfer your policy...best to do that before visiting the DMV.
