How to transfer car title?

How to transfer car title for deceased parent when I live in Oklahoma, but car was registered in Arkansas?

  • My mother passed away a couple of years ago. There was no will, and I was appointed executor by the court. We moved to Oklahoma over a decade ago. Since living here in Oklahoma, she purchased a new car which is registered in Oklahoma (where I also live). I managed to successfully transfer that car title into my name with little issue. My problem is that she had another car which she bought in Arkansas. It's over 20 years old, doesn't run, and I really want to get rid of it. While the car has been in Oklahoma for 12 years, the tag office won't allow me to transfer the title because the VIN is not listed in their Oklahoma database. It's registered in Arkansas, but Arkansas won't allow me to transfer the title because I'm not a resident. I'm really stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Could anybody offer me some advice?

    Call a junk/salvage yard and they'll tow it away. Tell them about the title issue over the phone,just in case it's a problem.

Sell the car to a junk yard for scap metal. You wont need the title.

get the papers that appoint you executor, one copy of her death certificate and the title. Sent all of this to the DMV in Arkansas. Ask that the title be made in your name. Give DMV in AR a call and find out what it will cost. DO NOT send any photocopies! Thay won't be accepted. The package should be mailed at the P.O. and have a 'return receipt' or proof of delivery sticker on it for your safety. It is really easy to do.
