    When you list your item, eBay will tell you how much the avg selling price is. Usually, you will get paid immediately but depends on the buyer. i always pay via Paypal immediately after the auction ends. But Paypal will not release the funds until you send them proof of delivery or the buyer leaves a positive feedback. You can also accept money order and checks but they are prone to fraud due to ease of counterfeit. Start with 1 item just to get a feel of it.

usually you'll get paid pretty quick, but ebay is expensive. I always sell my stuff at mmobay.net. No listing fee and much small closing fee then ebay. They also just opened a video game section. Not much listed, but I still sold my game in only 2 days. Plus after a few sales, it becomes free to sell.
