How much is a bonded title?

How much is a bonded title for my truck?

  • I can't get my ex to sign the title over to my name. I was told I can get a bonded title and now im worried a bonded title will cost thousands. My truck is just a 2k dakota valued at 2100 dollars. I live in denton tx if that helps.

  • Answer:

Bonded title is used when there in missing proof as to ownership of a vehicle. Doesn't sound like that is your case. It sounds more like it is her vehicle and you want to claim it. Bonded title (which can be very expensive) is not the way to go. Were you awarded the truck in the divorce settlement? If so, discuss getting clear title with your attorney. http://www.lawrenceautotitle.com/FAQ1.htm#Q5 will tell you about bonded title though.

If you put the truck in her name only you weren't very smart and need to give it back to her as she is the legal owner. She could go to the police and report the vehicle stolen and you could be charged with a crime. You need to make some kind of compromise with her to get the title, such as giving her 50% of the proceeds when you sell it. Good Luck

Bill

A bonded title is written by an insurance company. Its cost is related to the cars value. On a $2100 car, it shouldn't be too high assuming you have good credit. Bottom line is the insurance company is BONDING that if anyone comes & claims the truck, they will make them whole and then come after you for it. So if you don't pay your bills and have 2 repos in the last 3 years, your bond would be higher than someone with good credit.
