Bought a car and never had a chance to put it under my name. Im trying to sale it but i cant find the owner?

I bought a car two years ago from a lady (On craigslist). All she gave me was the pink slip, some problems had come into play around the time and i didnt have the money to transfer the car in my name. Time went by and the sticker expired so i just let it and didnt drive it around. I didnt have the money to smogg or register and now im trying to sale the car and i have some people who are very interested the problem is that i lost the pink slip. And im feeling like im out of luck because i have no proff that i bought the car and i never registered the car over to my name. No title, No Bill of sale. I have the ladies name and her number is no longer in service (it was probably changed). All i want to know is what can i do to get ahold of her because she is still the legal/registered owner. I just want to get this over with. I do have the old smogg papers thats how i got her name and number. She lived in the same are as me two years ago but im not sure anymore. Any advice on what i should do?

Answer:
Unfortunately at this point the only thing you can with the car is sell it to a junk yard. You have learned a valuable lesson. Always have the title transferred to your name.

you bought a car 2 years ago with not title, lol If you can't find the owner then you can't sell it, it is NOT your car. You can push it in the street and let the police impound it.

Sorry but two years ago you did not buy this car. You gave money to this lady. She did the right thing and gave you the pink slip. I have no idea why you have not been stopped and given a citation and how did you even insured this car not registered to you name. You cannot ever sell (not sale) this car. You need to join the Procrastinators Club of America, tell them this story, and be elected president of the local chapter. Sorry, I am not sure if you can have this car junked since it does not belong to you. If you ever contact this lady back and she finds out she easily could take this car back and legally sell it to you once more. Dude, you need legal advice. Go call a lawyer. Then call a psychiatrist to determine the reason as to why you seem unable to do what you have to do when you have to do it. Dude, really?

This is what we refer to in the industry as toughSH!T. You had the chance, you had 730 chances and you chose to sit on your hands. Ignoring your legal responsibility. You F'ed up and now the car can't be sold without a title and you can't get a title. Even if the seller lived next door there is no way they are obligated to help you in any way. After two years, Why should they? The law requires you to title the car in your name within 30 days of the purchase date. Too Bad.
