How do I get the title to my car?

How do I get a car title if the car is abandoned? (I live in NJ where the car is)?

  • Hello, I'm trying to get the title to a car. A small, local dealer sold it to us, but now is refusing to give us the title. I really don't want to take it to court because its going to get really expensive, but I would like to get the title under abandoned cars (because we've had it sitting in our driveway for a year now!) What do I have to go to get the title?? (please don't send me a link to the DVM's homepage, i already tried.)

    If you have the bill of sale you should be able to go to appropriate office and get a replacement title. Dealers rarely have the actual title, they turn the sale in and the state mails you the title.

go to the sheriffs dept in the county and talk to somebody/if he has a license you can take him to small claims court for 50 bucks and claim up to 10k loss/you have to fill out complaint in county courthouse and you rep your self with the bill of sale and claim 10 per day storage/stuff will start to move
