Are shy, quiet and introverted people discriminated against and is this fair?

What are ways to become less introverted/shy around people?

Im a pretty shy person at first and have gone through a lot of changes college just came off medication for seizures I know that i have a good personality but when you first meet me i am pretty quiet! i would like to be more liked by people the new people that I am around at college... what are some things that i could do to make me more confident and less shy

Just open up and talk. I'm shy myself, and it seems to me the more people I know who are around me, the less shy I am ... and the best way to get to know people is to open up and talk to folks. I know it seems like a catch-22 and it can be tough to do, but it really helps.
