What careers could I have with a Human Services degree?

Careers with a degree in Human Development with a concentration in Child and Family Services?

  • I'm getting my degree in Human Development with a concentration in Child and Family Services and I need to start looking for jobs. I really don't want to do something in Social Work or Counseling. (Please don't tell me to get a degree in Criminal Justice, I'm already too far in my major to switch.) My questions: 1) Are there any job possibilities in government, (federal) law enforcement, or corrections? 2) What would be a good Master's program to go for (not MSW or anything like it, more in law enforcement) 3) Can I be an FBI agent or police officer with this degree?

  • Answer:

You will have to get a degree in Sociology with a concentration in child and family services. but your area is more geared towards social work and counseling which you can do with a master's degree. You may want to research the job market because what you don't want is to end up with something you can't even use. The FBI doesn't deal in family matters they're more on the level of law enforcement and criminal justice. You can be a police officer, but your chances of getting accepted into the academy might be slim because they're wanting those with a criminal justice background to apply. You can be a probation or parole officer, but again you need to check the educational backgrounds of these jobs so you're not wasting time and money in school pursuing a degree you can't even get use out of.
