Is extension maths for HSC compulsory for doing engineering at uni?

Which subject would be more beneficial in my HSC for psychology at university?

  • I am currently in year 10, next year going onto year 11/12, and after that, hoping to take a communications or psychology course at uni. Long story short, with the way I've chosen my subjects for next year, I am not able to do both Mathematics (2 unit) and society and culture. Reason for taking maths: I am fairly good at maths, it comes pretty easily to me, and I've seen its sometimes listed as an "assumed knowledge" subject for the psychology at uni. Also, when I went to the maths department to ask what maths they thought I should be taking for next year, they said extension (so, I've already decided to go a class lower, and I don't want to drop TWO classes to general maths) Reasons for taking society and culture- It is the only subject that really relates to communications/psychology, and the HSIE department suggested I definitely take it over maths, saying "it would be so much more relevant and beneficial" So I am really stuck, and there is no possible way I can take both, because they are running at the same time. If this is any help, these are my other subjects: english advanced drama business studies economics Media and journalism (at TAFE) Baking (at TAFE, out of school hours) What should I do?

  • Answer:

It depends. Do you want to take up any Project or Research Work at a later stage. Moreover I don't want to force my suggestion in advance. First consult your parents.
