Anxiety and panic attacks make me feel horrible...How can I get over my anxiety without medication? Advice?

I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety, but recently I've started feeling really depressed because of my anxiety issues. I don't want to take medication for it, as you have to end up relying on medication to get you better. I don't suffer terribly from anxiety, but I do get anxiety quite bad, so how do I get over it? I am unemployed and I don't have much of a social life, therefore this makes me feel slightly miserable to be honest. But I get anxiety and it makes me depressed to have anxiety and suffer from panic attacks. Sometimes I think "why me?" because it's horrible, but then there's not much I can do apart from not worry, but it's so hard to do that, especially with the way our economy is in the UK. Also, I think because I am not working, I have more time to think about things, which is the worse thing because over analysing makes my anxiety worsen. Any advice?

You need to get out & about more to distract you from your feelings, try to stop analysing & stressing over things too much. Take each day one at a time, don't worry about days ahead of you & try not to dwell on past problems. I know it's easier said than done but with practice it becomes easier. If you have anxiety, treat it as positive energy & throw it into something energetic. I play guitar, walk the dog or go swimming & it burns it off. If you struggle with reasons to go out then try doing voluntary work in an activity you enjoy. This will also make you more employable should the opportunity arise. If you have anyone close to you who you trust, family or close friends, try to spend more time with them & tell them how you feel. If you catch a glimmer of an activity you enjoy then explore it fully. If you find it too hard then don't be afraid to ask for help. Good Doctors are hard to find, so if you find a good one try & stick with them. Some will try to fob you off & tell you to pull yourself together, some will offer medication, & some will offer theraputic options. Be honest with them & don't be afraid to ask for different treatment. Don't be afraid to try medication, some are very mild & can help a great deal. Amitriptyline is particularly mild & slow effecting & is ideal for winding down in the evening Bear in mind that the first few days of meds are not a good guide as to the long term effect. it can take weeks for your body to settle to medications & what can first seem scary will soon smooth out. And obviously don't take them like smarties as that will get you into trouble.
