What is it that makes people attracted to certain people?

I know that it's obviously the two factors that they have a good personality and are good looking that makes someone attracted to another person, but different people have different types and what one person finds attractive might not be the same for another. So, I was wondering, what makes people attracted to certain people? Why do some people prefer blue eyes and some prefer brown? Do we all have a "type"? Are we attracted to those who look opposite to us, or similar? I know that its genetics and stuff but I'd like to know more. Thanks in advane.

I don't think it has anything to do with looks, you find the person who's personality is best compatible with yours. For example, I really like this guy who seems to match my personality exactly. it has nothing to do with us looking alike, since we don't look anything like each other. (He's tall with blond hair and I'm short with brown hair). Just my thoughts.

Well I'm blonde and prefer blonde hair guys. my brunette friend prefers brunettes. but really i think mostly it relies on who we are first attracted to. Like after your first love you always go for someone similar. Looking for another the, it's what I've found amongst friends. like though I like the idea of the dark eyes dark hair look, the blondes always have me looking again and considering things. the similar thing works with the hair for me but.....my eyes are blue, ive only ever like guys with brown....hmmm. also the funniest best guys i've known are natural dark blondes. dont think that means much though lol i hope this helps.
