How do I overcome my fear of heights?

How can I overcome my fear of heights?

  • I've been scared of heights ever sense I was tall enough to ride the ferris wheel. When I got really high, I was so scared I was screaming like I was being killed. I have tried to ride the ferris wheel (and other high rides, climbing high towers, etc.) But I just get really scared again. I don't start screaming, I just close my eyes and try to relax. (Which doesn't work) But I don't want to deal with this fear anymore. Is there anyway I can overcome it? Thanks!!! :D

i don't think i'll ever get over fear of deep water- lakes and oceans and ponds- who knows wtf is down there- sharks, creatures, - i think it's a jason movie but there were kids in a pond and a hand reached up and pulled one down to the murky depths by the ankle- the last time i jumped into a lake i immediately panicked like the loch ness monster was down there and i got back onto the jet ski as quick as humanly possible- my friends just laughed at me because of the sincerity in my expression when i was scrambling to safety- when i was a small kid, i hated ants like they were tarantulas. they were just so spidery looking, and so many of them! my mom said she was scared of all spidery things as a kid but when she decided to tell herself not to be scared, that they were not scary, she overcame her aracniphobia. hearing her say that planted a seed of confidence in me and I was able to tell myself ants are harmless- and they became so to me from then on. I've been able to do that with spiders too, pretty much. won't hold one, still kill them, but my heart doesn't pound right out of my chest at the sight of a little one- just the dangerous and huge ones lol ok so it's about the power of our imaginations and the weight they can carry into our reality- i too have a fear of heights- will not fly in a plane at all- but fear is an emotion, and we can always always always overcome and control our emotions. i went on a ride at Great America called the Drop Zone- it's like a huge cylinder with people sitting around it, facing out. strapped in of course- and i was soooooo scared because it takes you up several stories high all slow and suspenseful and just that ride up to the top is crazy enough- my friend started to say "Get me down, I want to get off, I don't want to!" as soon as it started going up and by then it was too late. She freaked out all the way and the hilarity of it all made me laugh so hard the whole time just listening to her (because i totally could relate to how she felt) that i couldn't feel fear- my mind was too distracted and we got to the top and sat there overlooking the city for a minute, then BAM you free fall all the way back down and everyone's screaming with their legs sticking strait out ! then.....over. I'd do it again and again!!!=) only if i could laugh that hard every time!! just imagine that nothing will go wrong and that there is nothing to fear, and take small steps- you may never jump out of a plane but you'll eventually grow beyond your personal restrictions. You know, just do what you can and don't get too down if you can't completely get over something. Heights are rightfully scary things- if we were meant to be in the air, we would've been born with wings! good luck=)
