Why do I overanalyze things?

Why do I think about things like this?

  • For many years I have fought with myself, trying to figure out what it is that makes me the way I am. I'm indecisive. I'm moody. I'm a hypocrite with somethings. I'm a perfectionist. I'm a coward. I have a slight inferiority complex. I'm a jealous person. I have strange moods where I don't understand why I'm me and how I can see like this. Why am I here? What is it that makes me a person? What is a person? How do we function? Does everyone else see things like I do? Does anyone else get that feeling? When you kind of focus out of yourself, and wonder "Why am I sitting here? What if I were someone else? Would I be the same? would I feel the same emotions? would I breathe the same?" So many questions and I feel they will never be answered. What makes me have these questions? How can I remember so many things? The human mind is a wonderland to me. It's filled with magical and sometimes horrific ideas. Happiness, anger, sorrow, depression, suicide, curiosity, and all the other emotions that we get. Why? Why do we feel these things? Who was the first happy person? How did they decide it was good? What is air? Why do we have to breathe? Why why why? All these questions... there are so many questions. The only questions I really want to know the answer to are: Why am I alive? How do I think? How do I dream? How am I able to recall so many things? What makes me able to put a smell with an emotion? I know that last question was weird, but think about it. When you smell cinnamon or sugar cookies, don't you think christmas? Isn't there an odor that you can smell and it brings back memories of a person? Now the biggest question of all: Am I the only one that thinks of things like this??

Everyone has these self awareness questions occasionally. Id say you're more curious than most though. Life is a weird thing and by the end of it we'll probably be more confused about whatever answers we get after thinking about these questions.

You sound a lot like me I have anxiety (racing thoughts like what if, or why am I doing this?) and BiPolar which can make you depressed one second and angry the next, and happy bursts such as uncontrolled laughter at times for no reason, as a way for your body to release stress.

First off, don't listen to BANNIBAL. Obviously he's wrong because I'm ANOTHER person saying that, like myself, there are other people that think about things in precisely the same way you do. I don't have these answers, and like you, I'm on a lifelong journey to try to figure it out. We tend to have anxiety disorders/depression, so if it ever gets to the point of being bothersome, share this information with a doctor. SSRIs are very effective at treating anxiety too, even if you don't feel depressed, although these two conditions often coexist. An SSRI helped me calm the racing thoughts. It didn't change the way I thought at all, just got rid of the sense of worry I had. Even though it "slowed" these thoughts down, because my mind wasn't racing, I was able to go about my daily tasks in a much more productive and efficient manner. Do a little research about SSRIs online. (Don't ask someone here.) Then ask a doctor if you feel like you could benefit from taking one. The way in which you think is a *little* bit rare, but certainly not abnormal. You are on an intellectually higher level than most, and you will come across people throughout this journey who do share your views and the perspectives you offer each other will help to grow your understanding. In the kindest possible way, I say, "Relax! You're just fine." :-)
