How do I make my brain work again?

  • so a few years ago, i decided to get really into relaxing music (mainly Pink Floyd) now this was a really great thing, i was totally care free, i just relaxed all the time and just managed to shut off my brain and never worry about anything! but then i came to realize that i cant actually do anything... im stuck in a relaxed state where i cant even get myself to think clearly about anything and i cant focus on anything. ive become totally carefree but its become a bad thing because im practically emotionless and cant do anything so what do i do to get out of this state of being brain dead and be able to think clearly and focus again? i cant even read books any more because im just too zoned out all the time ive also noticed it has nothing to do with how much sleep i get... my brain is just never active

    You need to use it for it to work. I find i fall into this habit when we have like 2 weeks holidays of school, and when i come back, it's as if i'm being bombarded with work, and i can't get my brain to work properly because we've had such a great time off. I realize then that throughout the week i begin to get back into the habit and i even like having work to do, because it makes me feel active and fresh. Though in the holidays now what i do is, instead of the boring school homework or revision i know i should do, instead i do some other form of work that actually interests me so at least i'm doing something. I'm 14 and interested in psychology and i randomly found a biiiig book on it from open university, and i like reading that sometimes, which uses a bit of brain power because some things will require me to use my brain to understand what's going on. However when i read other books, i completely switch off, overtime after reading i've gotten used to it, and i'm much better at concentrating. I know you said in your question you can't read books anymore, but i think if you declutter your space and make it look efficient, sit up, away from any relaxing music, listen to something upbeat before you begin, then dance around, and then sit down, maybe even go out and excercise, find a topic that intrigues you instantly, look online for something, like me, normally i can only read a page of a book the most, i have read pages and pages and literally pages (but not remembered) of my psycholgy book, because i like it so much, without even getting bored, sometimes i don't want to look away, but yeah, read and the more you read and concentrate and understand what you're reading, it'll help you concentrate on other things too, at first take it slow, just read a little bit, and not too much, and increase the amount you read every day, sometimes, i like to see how fast i can read something without having to understand it, it's a good brain training exercise, it was on a brain training game i had for the DS, reading fast, so that's good too. Another thing, whenever you get your brain to work again, keep it up, and if you want to relax, don't go over the top till it becomes laziness, just take short rests etc. i like to when i come home from school, after all my work is out of the way. Exercise also clears out the mind, helps you to think straight, less junk food, that will prevent that sort of 'foggy feeling' in your head that makes you zone out. And also try finding a hobby which requires a bit of work, if you like doing it, you'll be focusing on that, just like a few years back you were focused on relaxing music. It's good that you want to get out of that state, it'll make you more determined and you will actually try, then if you put in enough effort, you'll break through. Hope i helped
