What Is Economics?

What should i do now Biology vs Economics?

  • Ive kind of screwed up my current science degree and there is little to no chance that the college will let me continue with my current degree. But i have 2 choices really. I can graduate with a biology degree by just doing 2 extra papers (ive covered most of the papers). But that leaves me with just a Biology degree. My parents really want me to graduate but i really dont know what to do with just a biology degree. Ive heard its not really usefull and to be honest i only have a passion for biochemisty and microbilogy both of which are interesting for me. My second option would be to do a 3 year Economics degree. Ive never done economics before. Some people say its hard some say its easy. Im really interested in doing the mathematical side and not so much the arts version of economics. This means more math. I havent dont a math paper since i graduated high school which was 4 years ago. I still have a longing for math. Yes, unlike most people i enjoyed math in highschool it was the only class i ever really paid attention. Not that my grades were spectacular but i found as long as you approach it in a logical manner then math is easy and fun. but anyway im not really sure about my chances in an economics degree. There is also the issue of what am i supposed to do with an Economics degree?? thanks guys. I will post this in both the biology and Economics sections to see how the answers go.

  • Answer:

You've nearly finished a biology degree, but you want to swap to an economics degree, which is a subject you've not done, to do maths which you haven't done since high school. The obvious question is, if you like maths, why not do a maths degree? What to do with it? I don't know, go be a maths teacher somewhere. Maths is used in economics to quantify and explain what you call the "arts version" of economics. It's simply a tool, not an end in itself. This means you need to understand what the maths is telling you, you can't just do maths. If I was you, I'd finish the degree you've nearly got, then go and work in those areas that did interest you.
