Is it easier to learn to play the piano if you are already proficient in Guitar?
-
I've been playing Electric Guitar and Classical Guitar for almost 6 years now. I am very proficient and I well know in the capital city i'm from for playing electric guitar. But im so impressed by the piano, it is such a marvelous instrument and I would love to learn how to play it proficiently. My question is. Is it easier to learn to PLAY the piano if you already play guitar?? Would you be skilled? would acquira fast movements in your hands quickly??

Answer:
I dont think so, because the left hand fingering goes in opposite directions... I mean, on strings, abcd=1234 but on keys, abcd=4321 (for the left hand). Idk bout u, but that kinda throws me off. But that doesnt mean you cant learn to rock a piano! Im a violinist but same concept. I only play piano a little, much better at violin. :) hope that helps....

Having an understanding of the guitar will definitely help you to learn the piano, but they are fundamentally different instruments. The piano is much more right hand dominant and requires learning the proper technique and how to read the grand staff. Having an understanding will help you to translate the concepts faster but technique comes with practice, for any instrument.

why
No there is no correlation between the two instruments. It would be an advantage to learn acoustic guitar before electric, but not necessary.
