Is ProScout a scam?

To people who've done the proscout thing? Are they a scam?

  • Answer:

Of course you pay - everyone has to pay to participate It's not a scam - they do what they say, there are about 500-1000 attendees who get a chance to be seen by agents. BUT at any sort of showcase only about 2-3% of attendees will ever get an agent at any showcase, the rest go home empty handed and a few hundred dollars poorer. I can tell you from the agency side about showcases in general (not specifically Proscout but they are all pretty much the same) -- the reality is, with ANY showcase the agents are ONLY interested in those few people who are the most gorgeous (for modeling) or with the most experience and training (for acting/singing). Period. If you are interested in acting, the agents will look at everyone's resumes and usually only call back the few people with MINIMUM 3 years performing experience and training from the best acting coaches/schools to perform either one of their prepared monologues or to do a cold reading. That's it. So if you have been enrolled in a reputable performing arts school for several years and have a strong resume with years of starring roles in community theatre, student films, etc then you have a good shot. If you've never acted or only done 1 or 2 school plays, you are wasting your time and the agents' time by attending any sort of showcase as you are only showing them how unprepared and inexperienced you are and that you are not committed to acting or you would have been doing so for years. For modeling the ONLY way to get discovered is if you are 5'9" - 6' with measurements within 1" of 34-24-34. Thats it. Agents are not looking for normal girls - they have hundreds of normal girls a week sending in pictures. They are looking for that one girl who they can take to NY within 3 weeks and start sending her out on auditions for fashion shows, magazine shoots, etc If you don't have any acting experience, then do not spend money on any showcase. Invest that money in the best acting classes you can find and get out there and audition for everything you can locally and act for at least 3 years, then you can look at a showcase where you might have a chance But honestly, if you can't get an agent by submitting your headshot and resume to local agencies, then you aren't going to get an agent by attending a showcase where you are not being judged on your own but being compared against the hundreds of other attendees
