How can I learn how to sing?

Is it possible for an adult who can't sing to learn how to sing?

  • Well, to be precise, back when I was younger, I was able to sing. But as I gained more weight year after year, I lost the ability to sing. If I lose weight, is it possible for me to be able to sing again? Also, whether I regain my singing voice or not after weight loss, is it possible for me to be able to learn how to sing? I am currently 22 at the moment, turning 23 this year and I wanna regain my singing voice. It's fine if I can't but just asking and still hoping I can. Okay so some are confused with my question apparently so I'll specify. I was a good singer before when I was younger, around when I was a kid and in my teens. I noticed that as I got fatter, I had begun to lose the ability to sing. Now, I am, in a nutshell, a really, and I mean REALLY, lousy singer. What I'm asking is that if I lose weight, will I be able to be a good singer again or not? And if I still am a lousy singer, can I still learn how to sing good?

  • Answer:

Weight shouldn't really effect your singing. You said that you could sing when you were younger. Do you still sing at all? Even just around the house or to yourself? Also, what do you mean about you've lost your ability to sing? Can you no longer hit notes on key, or it your voice just not as strong as you want it to be? Both of those will come easier with practice. Sing a little every day and I'm sure you'll see some improvement. Even if it's just singing along to the radio.

Hello, I don't think your weight and your singing could be that closely linked. What do you mean you "lost the ability to sing"? Did you ever sing as more than a pastime - such as in a choir? Singing takes practice like everything else. It does take building up the diaphragm; generally it is best to be healthy for any activity - yet haven't you noticed how many opera singers are largish??
