How do I write a song?

METAL SONGWRITERS: how do you write a metal song? Non metal song writers, just go away?

  • How do YOU write a metal song? what inspires you? what mode do you play in? what key? what scale? (minor, major, pentatonic...) and what do you write first? the lyrics or the music? i really need some advice to help me write a metal song, if you could help, i would truely appreciate it...im 14 btw, so i may not know all the terms, so if you could explain it, that would be great...thank you

  • Answer:

Writing metal music is just like writing any other kind of music, worrying about what key other people play in or what setting they choose to write in won't do you any good. You have to find your own key, you have to find your own setting, your own story. That's what making music is about, it's about taking a part of yourself and making art with it. Metal music is art. No one can tell you HOW to do it.
