Jazz song for Female alto singer?

What is a good funny character-piece Broadway song for a alto/mezzo female singer?

  • I'm auditioning for an upcoming Musical review show and want to find a song that shows off both good vocals and a strong quirky character to play. I'm 21, average weight and height, and an alto/mezzo singer. I can go into soprano I just don't want a song that stays in that high of a range. Right now I'm thinking of Adelaide's Lament from Guys and Dolls, Show Off from The Drowsy Chaperone, and I Know Things Now from Into the Woods. Any help is great. Thanks!!

What a Movie by Bernstein is a good one. It's the epitome of a character-piece song.

"Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop of Horrors. "I Can't Say No" from R&H Oklahoma. "All That Jazz" from Chicago, "My Strongest Suit" from Aida. "Popular" from Wicked. Just a few off the top of my head.
