Is barbizon modeling and acting really a scam?

Modeling/Acting classes, will they benefit me, or is it a waste?

  • Since I was little, I have wanted to act. Ive done everything to be on stage. I did drama clubs, and I even tried out for barbizon. Only 20 people got in out of the whole audience. I was one of the 20 people that got chosen. I didnt do it, because my mom talked to some people and heard it wasnt a scam. Its been a few years, and I want to try it again. So we went to a modeling and acting agency and they explained that barbizon, just did the training, where this agency, did the training and got you started on auditions, and did your photo shoot. It sounds like something I really want to do, and they sounded like they were excited to have me. They want to change my hair style, which im a little nervous about, but if I could possibly live me dream... that would be awesome right? im just looking for some opinions. No mean ones please.

  • Answer:

Modeling classes are a waste of money as no agency in the world requires you to have classes before you join, and every single agency will train their own models for free if you get in. Also with the big agencies going to modeling school can work against you. The director of my old agency automatically rejected anyone who even mentioned modeling school because he felt the poses and walks most schools taught were better suited to pageants than modeling and it was impossible to unteach these habits Acting classes are good BUT you should try to take acting classes from a school that is attached to a theater company if possible. And you can find classes for a LOT less than what Barbizon charges. You never spend a lot for beginner classes as you are being taught the same thing whether you are spending $300 or $800 or $3000

I went to barbizon and i definitely learned alot. Training never hurts so if it's something you want to do go for it. Its definitely not a scam. I did it and loved it. They are not going to hand you a job when the classes are over it takes a lot of hard work to be a model or actor but its a good head start, plus they have a lot of industry connections.

I guess. It depends of what they're gonna teach you. Like how good they can teach. Then again, you should of taken the chance when you could

So does this "agency" do the training and photo shoot themselves or recommend someone to do it. Do you pay the "agency". If so I'd avoid it. Find a good photographer to do the photo shoot. Find a reputable company to do the training. Look for and agent that won't require an exclusive contract or require you to pay them for jobs you get on your own. Don't count on an agent to get all your jobs for you either. Many companies are bypassing agents these days to avoid paying an agency fee. With all the sites connecting models directly with those hiring them it's very easy for the agents to be cut out. Go ahead and start trying to get jobs. I'm not saying don't get training, just don't wait for it. You can still be getting experience while training. Here are some sites to check out: http://bit.ly/explore_talent www.onemodelplace.com
