Help! What would be the best kind of Alto Saxophone for me?
-
I've played saxophone from 3rd grade or 4th grade all the way to 12th grade and have pick it up every now and than after. I recently had a house fire and decided to donate my sax ( had some damage) to my high school in hopes that they could fix it up and use it. Now i'm looking into buying a new one and feel so lost I'm not sure if i should buy a student sax or get a pro one I'm not even sure the difference and being on a budget I'm looking for something on the cheaper side as well. Does anyone know what kind of saxophone would be perfect for me ? I'm thinking about practicing and maybe playing some jazz pieces at an open mic night! please help!

Answer:
From your long time playing, I'd suggest either intermediate level or professional grade sax. I you decide to make the investment and go pro, definitely take some private lessons. And Selmers are probably the best brand. For you, I suggest the Selmer La Voix. (Pronounced vwah) Also, the type of mouthpiece, reed and ligature are important as well. I suggest the Selmer C* S80 mouthpiece, Vandoren size 3 reeds, and a Rovner Dark ligature. You can get everything from www.wwbw.com, and they have great customer service.

Allora looks like a copy of some Selmer horns. It looks to be decent and nice sounding, but I would go with the more reliable brands so that you know you'll get good quality in your hands. If you're willing to go it the $700-900 range (Which is what the intermediate allora horns are selling for) then I would try going for these lovely brands: -Conn New Wonder (Chu Berry) -The Martin -Buescher -Conn Naked Lady Face -Cannonball Big bell/ Stone series -Buffet Goodluck (:
