I need tips for song writing.?

• I want to get into some good lyric-writing. Songs that catch people's attention and inspires people. I love Alternitive rocks, not the heaviest stuff, but lighter things sort of in the middle. I try to write and I actually write some pretty good lyrics in my taste, but I always get stuck after the first verse. I've tried the simplest things like poem-writing and try to completely forget that its a song. I'll finish but I realise its really hard to put notes together. I can hear the song in my mind and I know I can make it really good, but I can't seem to ever finish, or put the notes in the right way. And even when I do, I always mess up towards the end and it slurrs together not so well because I end up putting to many words or something. I just need simple advice to get me started better.
