Who knows any good card tricks?

How are professional magic tricks done?

  • I'm not talking about stupid card tricks or magical hand-changing coins or anything like that, I mean professional magic stuff. David Copperfield, David Blaine, Criss Angel. Like how do Siegfried and Roy make tigers appear and disappear in floating transparent boxes. How does that one guy change in and out of 12 different outfits in a flash? Things like that. I know it's all illusion and deception, but I want some details on how some of it is done. If anyone knows of relavent links or anything, it would be greatly appreciated

  • Answer:

1st off card and coin tricks aren't stupid, that kind of magic takes years to master and make look believeable. Anybody in the world can do big stage illusions as soon as the know the secret and have special made props, boxes, platforms or whatever. 2nd that's how they do it. The floating transparent box is a special transparent box. They can't do that trick with any other box in the world. Mirrors are probably used or something like that. The secret is in how the box is made. Quick changes aren't really a secret. Notice the more outfit changes there are, the skinnier they get. Its not just layers though, the clothes are specially made. Not only to come off and put on quickly but to be several outfits in one, so that to give the apearence of a different outfit only one small thing must be done. 3rd David Blane and Chris Angel are horrible magicians. Anything you see on mindfreak is complete bullshit and camera based. He's flying through the air because you can't see the giant crane off camera. Also most of the people around him while he's doing big illusions are actors. Lastly, you should watch a show called "penn and teller: fool us" if you are actually interested, it might help you figure some stuff out. Hope this helped

You would probably need to do a couple of things: Most magicians do not reveal their secrets according to the urban legends. However, they do put a lot of work into their shows. At some point they would probably love to be able to teach somebody. Find a magician who will take you on as an apprentice. I am sure this is quite difficult as there are not many magicians out there. You could also look into a specific school, if they exist. There are schools for a lot of things so you might be able to find one. The last bit that you probably do not want to hear: you should probably learn how to do all those card tricks and disappearing coin tricks. Unless you know somebody who will vouch for you, what are you supposed to show a magician when auditioning to be their apprentice? There is always experimentation to learn on your own.

>>I'm not talking about stupid card tricks or magical hand-changing coins or anything like that...<< Actually, you're the stupid one here. Sleight of hand can't be bought like some cheap showy false-bottom trunk - it can only be learned through thousands of hours of practice. Any loser can go to a magic store and buy grandiose tricks that only require a showman. A real magician practices his/her trade hour after hour in front of a mirror getting it right. A good French drop is worth all the David Copperfield crap in the world.

most good magicians are born with their powers, as for the ones you mentioned, they were all born on tuesday

After a long discussion with a Professional magician, here are some details that we almost all overlook. The average hour of magic tricks require an investment of 60 thousand dollars plus salaries for assistants and helpers. Costuming can add another $500 to $2,000. An individual trick can cost thousands to develop and perfect. All of these tricks are copyrighted and owned. They may or may not be for sale. Now for the good news. Almost every town has a magic club. You have to check out the magic shops to find them. In the magic clubs you can learn basic magic tricks and learn to create your own. You can put on a pretty good show with just a few hundred dollars invested. You still have to have a lot of skill and the ability to entertain. Beyond just doing tricks. The biggest and best tricks almost always started out as small simple tricks. Tigers appearing started out as pulling a rabbit out of a hat or even making a coin disappear.
