What is the difference between a high pitch voice and a tenor timbre?

Help catagorise my voice!!!?

  • I'm trying to work out what voice type I am (I am male btw) by measuring my vocal range and my timbre. My range goes from about B or C below middle C to Bb or B (C on a good day) above middle C, in chest voice. I know my top range would suggest tenor, but I've heard baritones get up there too, like Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops and Elvis. Also, confusingly, Barry Manilow claims to be a tenor, yet I have never heard him venture further than an F or G, but I digress! My voice timbre is rather nasal and not very weighty, so I think I point towards tenor. I just need a few second, third or fourth opinions out there! Also, discuss ranges of popular singers too, another anomoly I have found is Jim Morrison, often called baritone, yet I have heard him hit a B. Thanks, Jonny :)

  • Answer:

Your a tenor. Morrison was a baritone. He could hit other notes but his natural style was baritone.
