UK empire: UK colonized 1/4 of earth land-mass. how come UK not china/india/ africa. what happened?

Guns Germans and Steel by Jared Diamond does a great job of explaining why Europe colonized the world rather than the other way around.. suffice it to say that early on it was big kernel grains, an east/west growing area rather than north south (allows grain to grow easier), and large load bearing mamalls later, the UK colonized large parts of the world because they were an ocean going (island) people and large parts of the world are overseas.

The british used a lot of the areas natural resources which are needed for advancement. Plus, like in the uae, the british take away some of the areas most important things. Like in the uae, the brirish destroyed some of their docks which were big parts of their income.
