What are Declaration of Independence and the constitution?

• Publicly, King always maintained a high moral position of the movement by linking the civil rights cause directly to the Declaration of Independence and the constitution, and always advocating non-violent protest.   The D of I was a letter written by the Continental Congress to King George III, notifying him that the colonies didn't want to be part of the British empire any more and were starting their own country. King said "Oh no you don't." We had a war. The colonies won. Then they had to create a new government. They tried the Articles of Confederation, burt those didn't work BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GIVE ENOUGH POWER TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. . So the scrapped the Articles and wrote the US Constitution. The Constitution establishes the government. It says we will have Congress, a president, and courts. And a bunch of other stuff.
