In what ways does the Constitution contradict the Declaration of Independence? In what ways is it congruent?

What ways did young republic fall short of ideas expressed in Dec. of Independence?

  • Answer:

I suppose the most obvious answer would be that slavery was institutionalized and largely condoned. So much for your inalienable rights if you happen to hail from Africa. Women were quite a bit more fortunate than the slaves but they too were essentially property (no voting rights, couldn't own land, etc.) Essentially anyone who wasn't a white, landed, straight, protestant male was a second class citizen now that I think about it.
