Your thesis will either be: 1. The urban poor usually lived outside the center of the city in the terrible living conditions that many in the middle and upper classes avoided. (agreement) or 2. The urban poor did not necessarily live outside the center of the city and their housing intermixed with the middle and upper classes. (disagreement) After your thesis, your introductory paragraph should introduce the main arguments you will be using to support this chosen position. For example, if you will argue the agreement position (and these are just guesses since I don't know the sources your class is using) you could say something like... The urban poor usually lived outside the center of the city in terrible living conditions avoided by the upper and middle classes.
