SOMEONE HELP ME!!! (school/singing vs. sports)?

  • this summer im doing alot of activities...im playing basketball and volleyball im thaking a summer school class to get ahead 4 next year and im also trying to get prepared for this realy huge singing competition coming up in August...the sports are really taking a toll on my performance in my algebra 2 class because im starting to get tired and itz hard 4 me to stay awake in class...both of my coaches want me 2 be completely committed...my volleyball coach keeps us at practice for 3-4 1/2 hours everyday of the week...then i have games monday-thrusday. I really want to focus on my academics but nobody seems to understand why i want to stop playing sports just 4 the summer...i just wanna know if i should quit or should i keep playing...???

  • Answer:

You just really have to think about this...what's going to get you further in life: sports or academics. The great thing about sports is that they're always there, waiting for people to play them. However, if sports cause you to loose focus on your academics, you might end up getting yourself in a situation where sports makes you ineligible to participate in these sports. I was a student athletic in school and ran into the somewhat same situation as you. I just had to come to the conclusion that academics was what was important at that time. And, after I got my academics in check, I was able to participate in the sports yet again. As a current coach, my adive to you is to focus on your academics because that's what's going to give you the greatest amount of success in your life.

i know how hard this must be for you. i had sports and it was hard to do my school work too. you have to really listen to your heart. ignore what other people say. this is up to you. i think you should always pick school, because school is very important. it gets you a job when you grow up. it's ridiculous how long your volleyball practice is. and then you have games! if you really like doing sports too, maybe you could pick volleyball or basketball and do your other stuff. or if that's still too much, take a break from sports. it won't kill you. i hope i helped!

quit.. summer is to have fun not to be stressed you can always do winter and fall sports when school starts again.. like softball or something. but academics are way more important then sports. never do something you cannot handle.

do what you want. Always do what is fun. If anything you do isn't fun then you wont pursuee it.

When I was a freshman in highschool, my golf coach tried to pull the same thing with me. He thought I needed to "quit band" so I could play on the JV team from September 1 to October 10, which is when the mens golf season ended....... yeah, sure coach........... Luckily golf is something I can do until I die, which is how I approached it. I told him that I will continue to play in the band and he can cut me if necessary. There's no money in volleyball. It's a social sport once you get out of highschool. You won't be a better person for doing nothing but volleyball. You'll be a better person by being well rounded and confident in knowing what's best for you. I can also tell you from experience that high school teachers get really jealous and butt-hurt when you can sleep through their vanilla, prepared lesson plans and still ace exams without cheating. I consistently would fall asleep in a lot of classes and my "lack of participation" dragged my grades down by half letters....like A to an A- or A- to a B+. Tell your volleyball coach that volleyball doesn't matter in real life.
