What do you think about loyalty?

Answer:
I do not believe in loyalty or should I say I don't hold much value in it.. It is a character trait that is given when other traits of quality are present within a person. A great man once said "the only way to love anything is to know that it can be lost." If one can understand this, it reveals the ability to go without loyalty but not love. If someone is a good person. If they can be counted on. If they are true to their word. If they stand by you. etc. etc. Then these are valuable traits. And for them one may be deemed loyal but this is only secondary to the traits that matter.

To me, a person is loyal if they defend me when others insult me. Not if the insult is to my face, because I think everyone should fight their own battles, but behind my back. I don't think loyal friends have to be there for you whenever you have a problem because you can work most problems out yourself, but they should be there for you when something momentous happens, like the death of a loved one. In all honesty, loyalty isn't such a huge thing for me, maybe because I'm not that loyal of a friend myself. However, I do appreciate it when I hear that a friend was loyal to me. It makes me feel like I matter. If everyone was loyal then the world would be an awful place. Loyalty can be such a strong emotion and it could cloud your judgment. What if you're loyal to someone who does awful things? Then you would always defend their malicious actions and sooner or later, you yourself would become a malicious person because we always emulate those we find worthy of our loyalty.

What makes a person loyal is motive+behavior. Loyalty is important to me, but concerning a limited area of my personal interest. Why? Because loyalty can inspire others to share interest in your values. I hope to one day become known as loyal within the above mentioned context yes. Loyalty to ideology is an aspect of human consciousness that allows us to coexist with ourselves and other living creatures....for now.

It is one of the supreme qualities man can aspire to have. Yes it is more important to me. Because, Truth, justice, wisdom, peaceful living, non-violence in thought, word and deed, etc. brings all such loyalty to an individual. Loyalty can totally refine and reform the whole world.
