What is the world coming to?

Is this really what this world is coming too?

  • I DO NOT understand the purpose of these "reality tv program's"; for example, The Only Way is Essex, Made in Chelsea, Desperate Scousewives, that type of program. They're not acting, or portraying characters but they are given a slight pre-template of a scene? *confused to hell face* They have simply got a production team and made a documentary/day-to-day lifestyle of a particular area, about nothing special other than these people have disposable cash; where in our lives have we needed this drivel? Can a production team locate themselves in my small village in the UK and do the same here? I'm going crazy here; what are they actually for, except making money?! Is it just a side-effect of these meaningless, unhealthy, factually wrong glossy magazines and this "celebrity" life? This really drives me mad to see these nobodies do this and all of a sudden apparently we have to respect, make room and look at these people as though they deserve any publicity, FOR WHAT? Why does anybody with a life, need to know how these people live their lives? Mario Falcone is the latest nobody to be brought to my attention, with the only thing making him a "celebrity" is the fact he lives in Essex. I'm sure he has a job doing something, but do I need to know about it? No! ..................I am beyond confused about these people being nationally/globally known for no reason. I don't like the word "celebrity" because it means nothing; when does a gypsy, a regular audience member of a chat show or a footballers wife become a "celebrity"? The way I look at this is to scrap the word "celebrity", anything associated and anybody classed as one, use only the word "famous" and only publicise people who have a talent in their industry, for example, world renowned talents like a sports person, real musicians and actors/actresses (not pretty faces to make money; product/brand individual), music/film producers and directors, writers, authors, inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, scientists, political people, chef's......... It's as though anybody nowadays can be labeled and a "celebrity", and even a career choice nowadays is to be famous, where is the cut off point? A lot of people are forgetting, in order to work in these industries, fame should technically be the last stage. Who agrees that this world needs to have a clear out of rubbish, to respect the real worthwhile talents of our world?

  • Answer:

In regards to the reality shows, I agree, they are relatively stupid. How on earth they have managed to make so many that have so many viewers is beyond me. It's like anything else though - there is no such thing as moderation. They are going to suck the industry for every drop they can. There are some reality shows that I like though - Shark Tank, America's Next Top Model, and Top Shot. I guess these are more competition like though. In regards to "celebrity," not all of these people choose to be famous. They are in the right place at the right time. In fact, a lot of times, the only time the wife gets famous is because she is being cheated on by the famous husband. Lol. I do think fame is a little overdone. I will never understand why some people are famous, but they have to be doing something right. I agree, in a perfect world, talent would dictate fame. Unfortunately, fame isn't based on talent it's based on popularity - that's what fame is, a nation wide popularity. However, although I think the standards are next to nothing, I fault none of these people. They are making their money, and I begrudge no one that. If I were in their shoes, and had the same opportunities, more than likely (within reason) I would have done the same thing.

It sure seems that true talent has been lost in the rubbish heap shoved in our faces, doesn't it? It seems to be "all about me". Whoever comes across as the nosiest, most narcissistic, spoiled brat gets the fame. When I compare these self-entitled nobodys to the truly great talent of forty years ago, I realize we live in a talent desert. It all comes back to what sells. People seem to be captivated by these sniveling nothings and their bad behavior which has become mistaken for talent. Yes, it frustrates me too but sadly, it seems that you and I (and others) are outvoted. So much for democracy.

The ancient Romans used to enjoy watching prisoners get mauled by lions and gladiators fight to the death...reality TV shows are pretty civil and perfectly fine with me.

agreed I don't care that real housewives of california spend 30,000 on bed sheets. Its all rubbish.

I myself have not watched an episode of anything Essex or Chelsea related. They are degenerate to our society and yet our society still wishes to indulge within them. A celebrity is merely a person in public light, in glossy magazines that are written by mindless monkeys writing about mindless monkeys who put on an act for money. I could write an essay on this question but there would be no point because people would be too busy watching The Only Way is Essex or too busy using some sort of technology. I'm a teenager and already I fill that my country has given up on me. That's what the world has come to: making people question why it is the way it is.
