Which metal has the most negative electron affinity and why?

Which correctly correlates first ionization energy (IE1) and electron affinity (EA)?

  • Which correctly correlates first ionization energy (IE1) and electron affinity (EA)? A. equal in magnitude but opposite in sign B. as IE1 grows larger and more positive, EA grows larger and more negative C. as IE1 grows larger and more positive, EA grows larger and more positive D. as IE1 grows smaller and more negative, EA grows larger and more negative Thank you!!!

  • Answer:

Ionization energy is the energy required to remove an electron from an atom. Electron affinity is the energy an atom gains when it gets an electron and becomes an anion. A or C, I am confused. they seem to be both measured positive. But also the same value as eachother. (conservation of energy law)o umm I'll go with C. Maybe someone else can give a better answer
