How to calculate the specific heat of a metal !!?

  • Calculate the specific heat of a metal from the following experimental result. When 8.676g metal at 35C is place in 5.00 g H2O at 10C, the final temperture is 17.43C. THe specifict heat of water is 4.18 J/g. Please explain step by step how to do this. I dont care about the answer , i just want to know how to do i. Thank you

    specific heat = heat -------- g x temp change so its heat (joules) over mass times temp change. so temp change is 17.43 c - 10 c then convert water into joules 5.00 x 4.184 and multiply that by the temp change. the metel dropped in the water always has the final temp the same as the water so that is 35 c - 17.43 c = 17.57 remember heat lost by metel= heat gained by water so the top equa looks like this 5.00(4.184)x7.43=155.43 or 1.55x10 to the power of 2. we use this with the bottom part for the final equa to find the heat of the metel so s.h S.H= 1.55x10 to the 2 over 8.676x17.57 = 1.000706 p.s always remember units and sig figs
